Pre Holiday Crafting

There is nothing like an impending holiday (vacation) to get the sewing machine humming!

We are going to Suffolk and aparently it is actually warmish there at the moment so some last minute wardorbe additions were required for the kids. 1 pair of shorts for big and 2 for little!

Also, the thought of hours in the car was enough to make me make another 2 art satchels.

I have made 2 before here and here and I can officially say if I never see another one it will be too soon. There is nothing wrong with the process, and the final result is great, but it is the type of sewing I hate!

Today was also the last day of school here so I made 2 felt flowers for the kids teachers.

There was a pink one as well but no photo as it was all a bit of a rush!

Talking of rushing I better get on with packing our caravan for the trip, leave on Sunday and we are at a wedding tomorrow!

Thomas the Tank Engine Skirt!

This is the skirt I made for a little girl who is mad about Thomas but who's Mum likes her to be girly!

It is a double layer skirt with a simple elasticated waist. I made it in the same was as this skirt but made two skirts, one shorter than the other and sewed them together at the top before making the waistband.

If only little e would wear skirts (for longer than just to model them), I could have such a good time making lots of crazy ones like this:)

Off to play nurse now, little e has chicken pox!

I have to admit, I am a cup half empty person a lot of the time, so, being nominated by Estelle at Twinkles, Tutorials & Twirls and Priscilla at Thrifty Crafty Girl for the Sunshine Award has made me smile:)

Simple spider cake (version 2!)

This is what you end up with if you ask your almost 4 year old what kind of cake we should do for her Great Granny's 96th birthday, a spider cake of course!

This is the second spider cake I have made, last June I blogged about the cake I made my Dad for his birthday.
Last years spider cake

This years one is slightly more classy:)

I covered the cake in white fondant then piped a web over part of it. The kids made 2 spiders to go on the web and I used snapped cocktail sticks for the legs. Very simple!

My Granny has very poor sight but the indoor firework on the cake gave her a surprise (no we were not trying to give her a heart attack...!).

My Dad's birthday was last week and again we made a spider cake, hopefully I will get away with something a bit different on my sister's cake in a few weeks!

How does your garden grow?

Wild is my answer to that question!

Trying to tame the garden is a mammoth task but, so far, I have managed to tame the veg patch and now have lots planted (and fenced off to protect from the rather fat wild bunnies that live in the garden!)
I am growing radish, spring onion, lettuce, garlic, carrots, beetroot, parsnip, brussel sprouts, onions, potatoes, spinach and peas. The wilderness at the bottom is very overgrown currants, raspberries and gooseberry's, I will have to deal with this once all the fruit is finished!

Amid the chaos there have been some nice surprises

a pink tree paeony and a Himalayan blue poppy. There are also lots and lots of ferns and dandelions which, although very photogenic, have a plan of domination and are trying to take over!

Now to get back to the fun task of trying to work out what is a weed and what the previous people might have planted then let take over...!
