Simple Spider Birthday Cake

It was my Dad's birthday yesterday and little e decided he really needed to have a spider birthday cake (after saying for about a  month he was going to have a pink cake)!

I was totally disorganised so it had to be quick and simple, this is what materialised at 10.30pm on Saturday night!
I made 2 x 7inch round sponge cakes, stuck them together with raspberry jam then covered with grey fondant. It was supposed to be black but I couldn't face adding any more colouring to the icing!

The legs are matchmakers (mint chocolate sticks) stuck together with a ball of fondant icing. One end is stuck in the cake and the other is stuck to the board with the fondant. I didn't really pay any attention to the amount of fondant I was using for sticking it all together but I would if it was for a proper party as it would look a lot neater if all the legs looked the same!

I decorated the spider with jelly beans, my Dad's favourite!
