Christmas in pictures

Before the influx of pressies!
Since the New Year is almost here I thought I would share some photos of our Christmas. It has been busy but full of fun, family and friends!

Our day started early - 5.02am to be precise.... plenty of time to open pressies, go to Mum and Dad's where my sister and her wee family were, to church and back to our house, all by 11.45am!!

My Swarovski Snowflake 'tree'.

Not nearly as many cards this year.
Our entrance hall
Christmas Morning - Inline skates, lego and animal sponsorships from Santa and us!

My Dad got a huge book of maps, not sure where Mum thinks he will store it though!!

little e was watched by her shadow, wee G.
Mum got enough perfume to bath in!

little e adopted the Californian skater style later on Christmas day as she
modeled her gymnastics stuff and skates :)

Hope you have all had a fantastic Christmas, I will be back here next year with some monthly goals, that has to be more achievable than yearly resolutions!!

Another Party Dress - Vogue 1408

When I saw this pattern I though it would make a fab colour block dress. I bought the fabric ages ago intending to make it and wear it to a wedding yesterday. Typically life got crazy busy and the dress was made over a few days last week, another last minute rush job!

I ordered the fabric online (royal blue, cerise and purple ponte knits) and they are not the colours I was expecting (and the photos above don't show the colours well at all)... the royal blue is more like an electric blue. I went with the rather vibrant colours anyway and this is how it turned out.

I like it, feels a little costumey and I need to sort out the hem as it has sagged a little but I like it! It went together nicely, and is my first fully lined dress. It is lined with a stretch crepe fabric.

A little crumpled after a rather long day at the wedding!
I cut a size 14 and merged into a 16 at the waist. I shouldn't have, it is a bit big round the middle but good for this time of year when food is plentiful! I might take it in over the seams I enlarged but there are a lot of them...!

Now I need to sew the couple of Christmas orders I have, a twiddle cushion for my friends Mum who has dementia and Cinderella dress. Must do them soon....

The Birthday Skater Dress!

It was my birthday last Saturday and Husband excelled himself and booked a table at The Dome in Edinburgh. I had heard how amazing it was a Christmas but WOW, I didn't expect it to be this fab!

Anyway, a special place meant the perfect excuse to make a party dress! I spotted this dress in M&S and knew I needed to make one of my own!

I bought 2m of stretch velour on ebay (£5.99 p/m) and whipped up this Lady Skater in a couple of hours.

think I was about to say something...!

The fabric is more of a teal colour in real life but it is the perfect understated party dress (it is stretchy too so may end up as my Christmas Day Dress too!

Going to hit publish now, we have had no consistent internet connection for weeks now so actually being able to publish this will be a miracle!

DIY Simple Skirt Alteration

Everything has been on hold for the last few weeks, life is too busy and I have a horrible condition that means I am unable to say no to anything. ever. it is not always a good thing...

My craft room looks more like a dumping ground as I have stacks of pre-washed fabrics ready for projects which I don't have time to do. But,  have managed to register as a small business and revamp my web site in the hope that, with a little (lot) of time and effort, I can start making some money. It is that or a normal job, I know which I would prefer (especially since I have no idea what I want to do when I grow up, I really should decide I am 34 in 2 weeks...)!

I have managed to squeeze in a tiny bit of sewing. I sewed a hem!!

I got this pure wool tweed skirt at a flea market last year (£3)  and it has been sitting patiently waiting for me to shorten it.

Well, it's time came and, using a skirt I altered last year, I cut it to length, pressed it, then hand sewed the hem. I used to hate hand sewing hems but I actually loved doing this hem and it looks so much better than a machined one.

The skirt looks a longer on than I thought I might shorten it a wee bit more!

Off to schedule my week in my google calendar, that way we might have proper meals this week...!
