30/52, 31/52 & 32/52

I am so far behind with these post so here goes:

Two weekends ago we went to Dryburgh Abbey for the day. It was not dry, in fact little e has renamed it wetburgh!

We had a picnic in torrential rain then the sun came out for about half an hour and then it started to rain again, the joys of summer in Scotland.

Last weekend was husbands birthday, we were waiting for news on a scan my Mum had on Saturday so the day was a bit subdued and lots of brio was played with.

Today was little e's birthday, she had a great day!

6/52 - a day at the Kelpies

We had a lovely day out today to the Kelpies in Falkirk. A Kelpie is what Scots used to call shape-shifting water spirits. They are absolutely amazing and the Helix park they are beside is great for the kids.

There is a large pond where the swans and seagulls were ice skating.

little e : Watching the swans ice skating!
There is also a fantastic play park. The kids went up and down this slide about 10 times!

A fantastic slide at the Helix park.
I am not a horse person at all but these sculptures are just amazing.

Big E: The most sensible photo of a lot of photos!

We will definitely be going back in the summer to use the water play area although it is unlikely we get a much sunnier day than today, even if it was only 2C.

Nervous anticipation

Rainbow Falls - Skye
I am sitting here, well past my bed time, unable to switch  my brain off. Tomorrow is the day that  people living in Scotland get to decide whether to remain part of the UK or become an independent country. What a responsibility.

There is 49/51 ish divide in the population at the moment and I am nervous that all will not be well after tomorrows referendum. Will the 49% of the country that looses be gracious in their defeat or will there be anger and accusations flying around?

My hope is, whatever the outcome, Scotland does not remain the divided country that it seems to have become.

See you on the other side!

A Sorbetto at Aberdour Castle

Husband took a fortnight of work at the start of the school holidays which was great, we were away for 8 nights which meant we had some time when we got back to get another use of our Historic Scotland membership.

It was a gorgeous day so we headed to Fife to visit Aberdour Castle. But this post isn't about the castle, which we had a lovely wander round then lunch in the tea room, it is about what I wore.

A new contender for possibly my favorite top status. Not the most flattering but I don't care, it has robots on it!

I got the fabric from Elise who blogs at Foof & Faff (and does lots of Historic Scotland posts if you are interested) at the Scottish Bloggers Meet up earlier in the year. It was meant for Big E....

... but instead it became a Sorbetto, minus the front pleat, for me. Do I feel guilty, not really, I will get many summers from this top and Big E would have outgrown anything I made by next year!

We nipped in to Tesco on the way home that day and I wondered why people were walking past me and smiling to themselves, then I realised what I was wearing!

Vintage Dress

I bought this dress in a charity shop for £9, I fell in love with the fabric, about 75% of my wardrobe is blue...! And it was made in Scotland which makes it even more desirable!

It fitted fine so all I have done to make it less granny ish is take up the sleeves to 3/4 length and shorten the skirt from calf to knee length!

I wore this to the wedding fair I was showing at and really felt like I stood out but not in a 'what the hell is she wearing' type of way! There were loads of really vintagy dressed people there, some burlesque 40's and some granny chic, I was in the second camp!
