Me Made May - the finale!

I can't believe it is June already! Me Made May has definitely been an eye opener in more than one way, before I go on here are the last few pics:

Day 29: No Photos, a day in DIY clothes tiling the new downstairs shower room which will hopefully be finished so I can take some pics and write about it!

Day 30: Top: Horrifically unflattering Josephine - looks like I have a rubber ring round my waist... I will not be wearing this top again!
Jeans: Sainsburys via my Mum - legs taken in.

Day 31 : Top - Sesalt via ebay
Culottes - made last year, can't find a blog post about them...

Day 31 out to a wedding reception - Top - Lacy top that my Mum gave to me and I took in.
Culottes - Tania Culottes still to be blogged!

So, I managed to wear me made almost every day without difficulty. I did wear a few items of M&S clothes that I bought ages ago that are not particularly ethical but the rest of the time the clothes were from ethical companies (Seasalt and People Tree) or secondhand, sometimes both!

I have realised a few things:
  •  My wardrobe is boring. I wear too much blue and not enough pattern.
  •  My Mum uniform of jeans and a t-shirt is too casual. I like to look smartish so this month have made an effort to dress more smartly on most days and it feels good doing it!
  • I have lost almost a stone in the last four months and now some of my clothes make me look huge, they either need taken in or have to go. Although, I have a stone to go so I should probably wait until the end of summer before I alter too much!
  • I have always had a stash of acquired fabric so use what I have for projects which means that often patterns are made in the wrong fabric, the Josephine is a classic example of how awful a pattern can look in the wrong fabric. I am almost through my usable sizes of stash fabric though so from now on I will buy fabric to suit the pattern. This gets expensive when you only buy organic and fairtrade though,  I think this site will be getting a lot more business from me in the near future!
  • I need a good trouser / jeans pattern, this is my quest for the summer, so I can banish all the ill fitting jeans I own!

This month has really spurred me on to get sewing, I have made a pair of kids shorts, 3 tops, a pair of culottes and a circle skirt this month (all will be blogged soon). Hopefully the items for me will fill gaps in my wardrobe and liven it up a little!

Me Made May - Week 4

Only a few days left of Me Made May and looking back at the photos there are definitely some outfits that work and others that just don't...

Here goes with this weeks outfits:

Day 22: Jeans and t-shirt day with half of it spent in Beavers uniform and there is no way I am posting a photo of me in that!

fuzzy phone photo taken by the kids!
Day 23: Top - Darling Ranges Top (taken in an inch at each side since making it :-) )
               Jeans - M&S ages ago
               Cardi - M&S ages ago

The manic grin of someone who's husband has just returned from a week in Japan.
Day 24: Top - Banksia, too big, made with the wrong fabric.
Skirt - White Stuff via charity shop
              Leggings - Virginia Leggings
Cardi - via charity shop, massive on me but I thought it looked ok, these photos prove otherwise!!
hmmm, this sorbetto makes me look huge...
 Day 25: Top - Sorbetto
Jeans - Sainsburys via my Mum - legs taken in
               Cardi - as above
One of my friends said I was looking glamorous today, hmm, if only there was not a muffin top peeking over the jeans :)
Day 26: Top - Maria Denmark  Kirsten Kimono
Jeans - Sainsburys via my Mum - legs taken in
Cardi - New Look ages ago (2+ years)

Help at school and food shopping day = super casual!
Day 27: Top - Seasalt
Hoodie - Me made forever ago hence the rubbish finish!
Jeans - M&S via charity shop
this doesn't even really look like me...
Day 28: Top - Too big Banksia
Skirt - Used to be jeans bought 2nd hand from ebay, worn to death then made into skirt.
              Leggings - Virginia leggings
              Cardi - as above

I have a feeling after seeing some of these photos my cream cardi and banksia may be headed to the recycling... they look truly awful!

Me Made May - Week 3

I have tried to be a bit more adventurous this week, a little less blue... if only I had remembered to take some more photos!!

Day 15: Have no idea what I wore, thought I took a photo but obviously not...!

 Day 16: Top - Josephine
Trousers - linen from Sainsbury's 7 years ago.

Day 17: Complete right off, spent the day in joggy bottoms and a t-shirt doing washing after an epic puking incident by Big E the night before...

 Day 18: Top - Josephine
Jeans - Next, taken in and rolled up via my Mum
Cardi - not on in public as it looks wrong with this outfit but it is Alpaca from Peru, gift from Dad!

Day 19: Top - Darling Ranges Top (taken in an inch at each side since making it :-) )
Jeans - Sainsburys via my Mum - legs taken in and rolled up.

Day 20: Top - Banksia this photo is from ages ago, I wore it untucked with the jeans from yesterday and it looked way better than this awful photo!!

Day 21: Top - Maria Denmark  Kirsten Kimono top still to be blogged
              Skirt - Hummingbird
              Leggings - Virginia Leggings
              Necklace - DIY

I think this has totally highlighted the need for some different me made trousers / skirts. I am on a weight loss mission at the moment though so am not wanting to make any quite yet - I have had to take the waist of this in by 2 inches already, I have another few to go though ...

Me Made May - Week 1

This is my first time taking part in Me Made May and it has been surprisingly ok so far. I meant to add in my pledge that all clothes that were not me made would be either from ethical shops, 2nd hand or gifts.

Here goes:
Headless for your own good!
Day 1 & 2 - Spend a good bit of each day in DIY clothes so this lasted 2 days.
Top - People Tree
Skirt - Hummingbird
Leggings - Virginia Leggings

Alarmingly the best photo of a very bad lot
Super casual, chuck anything on day.
Top - Seasalt
Trousers - The worst pattern ever
Cardi - Gift from Peru

Squinting on Day 4
Disney bound inspired outfit for May the 4th!

Another quality photo.... seriously what is wrong with me?! I look huge, kitchen looks tiny...
Top - Sorbetto
Hoodie - Me made forever ago hence the rubbish finish!
Jeans - M&S via charity shop

Ahhhh, less hair happier face!
Top - My first stretchy make - years ago!
Jeans - As above

She can smile!
Top - Plantain, not flattering, hanging from boobs making me look huge...
Skirt - Used to be jeans bought 2nd hand from ebay, worn to death then made into skirt.
Leggings - Virginia leggings

How rubbish is my wardrobe... I hadn't realised my clothes were so dull!

Hopefully next week will be a little more inspired :)

Me Made May 2014

I am going to bite the bullet this year and join in with Me Made May, so,

'I, Alison of Heavenly Handmades, sign up as a participant of Me-Made-May '14. I endeavour to wear one handmade / refashioned item for 5 days per week of May 2014'

I seem to go through phases of wearing me made clothes so hopefully this will identify the things I should be sewing to fill the gaps in my wardrobe! I probably won't manage to take daily photos but I will try and do a roundup each week.
