Me Made May Days 30 & 31 and a final round up!

Well, Me Made May is over for another year, May went so quickly!

Here are my final two outfits:

Day 30: Despairing at my menace children!

Me Made: Renfrew that will be blogged soon and spotty trousers.

Also wearing: Vivobarefoot shoes

Day 31:

Me Made: Tunic from Sew Serendipity Book, necklace.

Also wearing: M&S Jeans and charity shop cardi.

I have loved taking part this year, especially seeing everyone's photos on instagram.

During the course of the month I have made 4 pairs of trousers and 4 renfrew tops so the sewing machine has been busy but the holes in my me made wardrobe have been (almost) filled.

A few other things I have learnt this year:

  • This is the second year I have officially taken part in Me Made May and when I compare last years collage

with this years I feel that this years outfits are much more put together. I buy very few new clothes and get most of what I don't make from the charity shops or ebay but I seem to have got a bit better at choosing things that can be worn together!

  • I  need to get rid of clothes when they are worn out, there are only so many holes you can sew up and the item to still look good.  On that note I have recycled my two cream tops worn this month and made some new ones!
  • I am not the right shape for a lot of the popular patterns at the moment and must look but not buy the patterns! I have been exercising a lot and have shrunk but unfortunately as my hips shrink my shoulders and chest look even bigger!!
  • I need to make more cardigans, I love cardigans!!
How did everyone else get on? Anyone else go on a sewing frenzy and end up with an enormous pattern wish list...?!

Me Made May: Days 2-8

I can't believe the first 8 days of May are gone already! I am realising a few things from doing Me Made May, the biggest is that I have a lack of springy bottom halves. I spent winter in skirts with leggings and boots but feel that is a bit too wintery for May but it isn't warm enough for my short trousers or summer skirts. At least I know what I will be sewing next!!

Here is a summary of the last week, sorry about the photos, I really hate having my pic taken!

Day 2:

Me Made: Parisian Top, really not flattering...

Also wearing: M&S Jeans, Lotta from Stockholm Clogs

Day 3:

Me Made: Lady Skater Dress possibly unblogged as it was LS number 4 or 5!

Also wearing: Charity shop necklace and M&S boots.

Day 4:

Me Made: Parisian Top and Hummingbird Skirt (look awful,,,)

Also wearing: Slippers!

Squinting - should stop that as my frown lines are getting bad...!
 Day 5:

Me Made: Darling Ranges dress and Virginia leggings.

Also wearing: M&S boots

Day 6:

Me Made: Brand new Renfrew, still to be blogged

Also wearing: M&S jeans and vivobarefoot shoes

Day 7:

Me Made: Banksia top and modified secondhand jeans.

Also wearing: Clogs

Can you believe this was the best photo?!!!
Day 8:

Me Made: Tunic top from Sew Serendipity - looking past its best now, not bad for being in constant rotation for 2 years!

Also wearing: M&S Jeans and clogs.

That's all for now, off to do battle with a trouser pattern, on to modification number 4 and I am loosing the will to carry on.....

Me Made May 2015 and April in Review

Two posts in one today, sorry!

First, it is the 1st, which means the start of Me Made May! I have pledged to wear at least one item of Me Made clothing a day for the whole of May. I started on a high wearing 2 Me Made items:

Being blinded by the sun!
Me Made:  Kirsten Kimono Top and Cardi (McCalls pattern, to be blogged soon!)

Also wearing: M&S Jeans and Vivobarefoot Jing Jing shoes.

I am not planning on doing a post every day for May but will do a roundup each Friday. I will post my outfits on Instagram daily so follow along if you like!

Now for a wee round up of April in my world...

Finished Objects:

Culottes x 2

Cropped Trousers
A Banksia:

Books Read:
Finished The Woman Who Stole My Life by Marian Keyes
Started 5th Horseman by James Patterson

Looks like it wasn't a month for reading!

Weight Lost & exercise:

0lb (well, +2lb at Easter then - 2lb since!)

I am on day 18 of the 30 day shred by Jillian Michaels (has there ever been a  more annoying woman...) and am noticing a difference in my muscle tone. In fact I can see a difference in the photo from today and the culottes photos which makes me happy. I am desperate to be fit and healthy. I want a healthy BMI and to be able to run away if someone is chasing me (normally a child with a water or nerff gun...) To help the latter I have started my couch to 5k runs again, I am no runner.

Mission for May:

Run without feeling like I am going to die and wear Me Made every day!

Culottes x 2

Is anyone else pleased culottes are back 'in'?!

Not that really matters, I have had many pairs over the years, but I might not feel so 'middle aged before my time' when I wear them now...

I have had this pattern for ages and I made a pair a few summers ago. They were made with very old fabric of dubious content and I get very warm in them though so I figured it was time for some made with more appropriate fabric.

I used 2 pieces of linen / linen cotton mix fabric, that were acquired form my friends Mum who was clearing out, to whip up some cooler versions, one mid length and one short.

Seriously white legs!
The pattern is really easy and each pair took a couple of hours max to make.

I cut a 14 rising to 16 at the waist as usual and they fitted on Sunday, were a wee bit big by the time I took these photos yesterday and today I had to take them in by about 2 inches at the waist due to body shrinkage (I am like a flipping water balloon at the moment).

I think my next culottes will be another pair of Tania Culottes but for now these are great. They will no doubt come in useful during Me Made May since I have signed up to wear at least one me made item of clothing a day for the duration of May!

Back soon with my favourite Banksia yet!
